PAGET* BONE Recent developments in nanomaterials for upgrading treatment of orthopedics diseases

Nanotechnology has changed science in the last three decades. Recent applications of nanotechnology in the disciplines of medicine and biology have enhanced medical diagnostics, manufacturing, and drug delivery. The latest studies have demonstrated this modern technology's potential for developing novel methods of disease detection and treatment, particularly in orthopedics. According to recent developments in bone tissue engineering, implantable substances, diagnostics and treatment, and...

A rare case of asymptomatic Paget's disease of the skull in a 60-year-old Asian female

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Paget's disease of the bone refers to a chronic cumulative disorder characterized by enhanced osteoclastic function followed by a secondary surge in osteoblastic activity. The condition can manifest as a polyostotic or monostotic bone disease with most patients having an asymptomatic presentation, although some may complain of pain localized to the affected bone while others express symptoms of nerve compression. A pagetic bone is predisposed to develop pathological...

Paget's disease of bone with SQSTM1 and HNRNPA2B1 gene mutations: report of 2 cases

Association of PFN1 Gene Polymorphisms with Bone Mineral Density, Bone Turnover Markers, and Osteoporotic Fractures in Chinese Population

Recent studies have discovered an association between the PFN1 gene and Paget's disease. However, it is currently unknown whether the PFN1 gene is related to osteoporosis. This study was performed to investigate the association of Single-Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs) in the PFN1 gene with Bone Mineral Density (BMD) as well as bone turnover markers and osteoporotic fractures in Chinese subjects. A total of 2836 unrelated Chinese subjects comprising 1247 healthy subjects and 1589 osteoporotic...

Paget's Disease of the Bone and Lynch Syndrome: An Exceptional Finding

Our objective is to present an exceptional case of a patient diagnosed with Paget's disease of the bone (PDB) while being confirmed with Lynch syndrome (LS). A 44-year-old woman was admitted for progressive pain in the left forearm 2 years ago, and was partially relieved since admission by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Suggestive imaging findings and increased blood bone turnover markers helped the diagnosis of PDB. She was offered zoledronate 5 mg. She had two more episodes of relapse,...

Bone Scan

Skeletal scintigraphy, commonly referred to as a bone scan (BS), is a valuable and versatile nuclear medicine tool. The examination is most commonly performed using the radiotracer Technetium-99m (Tc99m) complexed to a diphosphonate, either methylene diphosphonate (MDP) forming Tc99m-MDP or hydroxydiphosphonate (HDP) forming Tc99m-HDP. Tc99m is the most common radionuclide used in nuclear medicine for labeling because it is relatively inexpensive and has favorable characteristics for imaging...
